Common Grounds Workplace

2019

Salt Lake City's historic Orpheum Theater is now transformed into Common Grounds Workplace. The original building, built in 1905, once served the community as a grand theater. It now serves as a co-working environment designed to inspire creativity and encourage collaboration for sophisticated working professionals.

The design team focused on accenting the history of the building while working with the client to identify a modern and vibrant interior design for the space. Given the age of the building, Design West utilized state-of-the-art spatial scanning to provide highly accurate 3D modeling of the existing structure. The new workspaces integrate environments, technologies, communities and work-life services that encourage engagement and productivity.

Interior finishes include glass wall systems imported from Italy. These systems are specially designed to reduce the transference of sound between offices while also allowing the end users to scale their space appropriately to their needs.

Design West’s focus on delivery included a comprehensive Life Safety Analysis of the building. The design team implemented changes to the building to ensure complete compliance with the current code, a remarkable feat for a 114-year-old building.
