Colorado Mesa University engaged Design West+ KCB to program and design the third Phase of CMU’s student housing master plan, to meet a demonstrated demand increase of 150 beds per year.

The demand study suggested that this project should accommodate 372 bed semi-suite configuration. The program recommended design flexibility which would allow CMU to offer the double or single occupancy bedrooms if economically feasible.

Orchard Avenue is Colorado Mesa University’s most desirable housing option on campus for upper division students. The building houses 184 students including sophomores, upper classmen and transfer students only. Orchard offers a three-bed and six-bed apartments and provides gathering spaces including study lounges, computer labs and laundry rooms.
