New School Design
The floor plan for Birch Creek Elementary School was designed to provide separation of kindergarten, lower, and upper grade children while maximizing visual control and observation, and the use of shared facilities. The plan is designed to facilitate cross-coordination and planning between grade level teachers through the inclusion of satellite Teacher Planning Centers and Extended Learning Areas in each wing.
These extended learning areas encourage integrated grade level activities such as combined-grade history or science fairs, joint art projects, author days, and can also provide a place to go during inclement weather play days. They also provide a place to support after school reading or on-going group activity programs. The centers also provide a central location to store and maximize the availability and shared use of learning center materials.
